6th annual nelson's landing benefit
golf tournament/poker run/auction
Friday, June 13 & Saturday, June 14

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everybody who helped, donated, or participated in our 6th Annual Benefit!! It was a HUGE success and we couldn't have done it without you!!  It was an amazing weekend and it meant so much to us to see everybody who came out to be a part of it!

If you didn't happen to make it out and still would like to donate, please mail or drop by your donation (make your checks payable to Nelson Family Community Foundation - NFCF).  Thank you all!!

This year the benefit is for Dylan Easterberg and Megan Whearty!  Dylan, son of Luke and Holli Easterberg, is a first grader at Riley County Grade School.  On October 6, 2013, Dylan was diagnosed with a cancerous Wilms Tumor.  He underwent surgery to remove the tumor and his entire left kidney.  He just finished 18 weeks of Chemotherapy treatments at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.  Dylan will continue a maintenance antibiotic once a month for the next 6 months at Children's Mercy Hospital.  He will also have regular scans every 3 months for the next 3 years.

Megan Whearty is 22 years old and a senior at Kansas State University.  She grew up outside of Randolph and attended Blue Valley H.S.  She was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) at birth.  CF is a life-threatening disease that affects mainly the lungs and digestive system.  Her daily routine consists of breathing treatments, chest therapy, multiple pills and exercise is a critical factor.  Megan is typically hospitalized twice a year for "tune ups" lasting a week or two.  During her years she has experienced 20 surgeries.  She will never know what it is like to take a full breath.  Her breathing is the equivalent to a normal person breathing through a straw .  It used to be that someone with CF didn't live long enough to go to kindergarten.  Now the life expectancy is about 40.  Megan is very independent, but at the same time spends a lot of time at KU Med at the doctor.  She is very much aware that CF will limit her life span.  However, she maintains a positive attitude and lives every single day like it is her last and influences others to do the same!
